Counterfeit products pose dangers to consumers

In a country where graft and corruption happened every minute of the day, counterfeit products easily pass thru busy ports located all over the Philippines. Millions of pesos changed hands upon arrival, documentations and retrieval of questionable goods. Custom officials and big time smugglers cum importers connived with each other using back channeling and government resources.

After a brief shady deals and under-the-table negotiations inside air-conditioned custom offices, smuggled counterfeit products find its way in malls, markets and retail outlets found all over the country.

The China made counterfeit or fake products like car tires, electronics, foods and various household items are notorious to cause accidents and deaths. Substandard tires manufactured in China with no ICC or import commodity clearance is blamed for the rising road accidents.

The tire breaks easily after a kilometer of road use, thereby causing tragic accident and death. Cloned electronic products like touch screen cellphones and other branded mobile phones pose dangers to unsuspecting consumers because of its very low quality that makes the unit to explode while charging.

Manufactured counterfeit products are getting bigger and threatened not only the legitimate manufacturers from the US, Europe, Japan but the poor consumers and the environment. Discarded fake products are piling up high in dumpsites scattered all over the Philippines.

Thus, counterfeit products, illegal Chinese manufacturers and the pot-bellied corrupt officials in the Philippines are colluding to amass wealth and to cause harm and damage to life and property of the consumers.
