September marks a host of changes every year … the roads become impossibly busy as children go back to school, the weather bizarrely becomes nicer than it has been during the whole summer and, of course, Autumn fashion rears its beautiful head.
Having spent the summer months trying to come to terms with harem pants, cropped tops and maxi dresses, I must admit I was concerned about what we will be expected to wear this season.
But a trip down town soon allayed my fears … River Island in particular got me excited about crisp mornings and chilly evenings with its just-in range.
It would seem country couture is in … it’s time to get on board with brown leather riding boots, chunky knit sweaters and quilted jackets. Think Gucci brown and green hand bags and belts, tailored slimline trousers and printed silk scarves, forget Katie Price pink pony carriers.
The more fashion conscious will already be in on this theme, donning flowered chiffon dresses with tights and brogues (for less manly styles check out Topshop’s barely-pink brogues with ribbon lace-ups). This look will make it right through to winter with thicker ribbed tights and cuddly cardigans – be brave and clash patterned dresses with knitwear sporting hearts, horses and even sheep for a quirky touch.
The only draw-back to this latest trend is my hair. Unfortunately this style seems to suit the Jack Wills obsessed back-combed teens down to a tee, and these sprightly youngsters will be strutting around in jodpurs while the rest of us battle with brushes and hairspray as we try to achieve that just rolled out of bed look.
So, riding boots, check, skinny jeans, check, vintage inspired cable sweater, check … just point me in the direction of the nearest stable…
