A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Wednesday directed the Secretaries to the Union Department of Road Transport and Highways and the Union Department of Banking and Insurance to consider providing insurance coverage to the lives of all passengers travelling on private vehicles including two-wheelers.
The court felt that compulsory insurance should be provided to all passengers travelling on a private vehicle.This could be achieved only by providing coverage under an insurance policy based on the seating capacity of the vehicle.The Bench of Justice C.N.Ramachandran Nair and Justice Harun-Ul-Rashid,while dealing a motor accident claim case.From this they felt that insurance coverage is necessary for all passengers including two-wheelers.
