`Mujahidul Islam Selim, the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Bangladesh has received a death threat allegedly from an activist of so called ‘Taliban’, an Islamic militant outfit. CPB in its press release on 22nd April 2009 said that the letters, in the name of Taliban, reached the Central offices of CPB by post on 16th April 2009. The author of alleged letter wrote, ‘we are very near to you, the target of our bullet is one ……..’ They also threatened CPB General Secretary for his initiatives to try war criminals.
The Dhaka Committee of the CPB had organized a protest demonstration on 24th April 2009 at 4p.m at Muktanggon, Dhaka against the death threat to its General Secretary. Central leaders and Dhaka committee leaders of the Party addressed the meeting. They said that Comrade Mujahidul Islam Selim is a brave freedom fighter of the liberation war of 1971. He is in the forefront of the movement against war criminals of our liberation war and also an uncompromising leader of the working class movement of the country. His contribution to the struggle for the restoration of ‘Four Fundamental principles of 1972’s Constitution’ is well recognized in the country. By taking such atrocious actions the terrorists are trying foil this movement. The CPB leaders have demanded immediate investigation to find out the criminals and punishment for those who are involved with this crime. The CPB leaders also called upon the countrymen to remain alert about the terrorists and organize a strong public resistance against these evil forces.
