Jammu,March 06 (Scoop News) – State Secretary, CPI (M), M. Y. Tarigami today sought stern action against land mafia operating in various areas of the state alleging that a huge area including Kahcharai and forest land in major cities of state and at tourist destinations of Gulmarg, Pahalgam etc has been grabbed.
Raising the issue through point of order in the Legislative Assembly, Tarigami said that he had sought a detail report from the government through a question in Legislative Assembly alleging that in a deliberate attempt full facts have not been provided in the reply.
In reply to his question about land grabbing by mafia in the major cities of the state and tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Pahalgam, the government in written reply while admitting that some unscrupulous elements make attempts to encroach upon the state, kahchari and forest land in and around major cities of the state adding that efforts are made from time to time to evict the encroaches and restore the land to its original position, as and when such encroachments are reported or noticed. The government has admitted in the written reply that an extensive exercise is yet to be carried out so as to ascertain the exact quantum of land which is under illegal occupation of the un-authorised occupants.
