The CPN (Maoists) on Thursday gave up its claim for the post of President, but stuck to its stance against amending the interim constitution. The CPN (Maoists) in their Central Secretariat Meeting, however staked their claim for the Prime Minister’s post and also held that the President should be a non-political personality.
While almost all political parties including the Nepali Congress, Communist Party of Nepal (UML),Madeshi Peoples Right Forum and Tarai Madesh Democratic party want the amendment of the interim constitution by including a provision of a simple majority to elect or remove a Prime Minister.
But the CPN(Maoists) are against the amendment stating that such an amendment would encourage horse-trading and create instability during the transition period and thereby affecting the drafting of the constitution.
