Craig Dietz and 2 friends, Jim and Ned, participated in Pittsburgh’s Triathlon this past Sunday. For Jim and Ned, who biked and ran respectively, the event was a challenge, but in a much different way than it was for Craig Detz, who was born with no arms or legs and carried the swimming portion of the event.
Dietz’s worries laid not in his ability to complete his part of the race, but instead in the challenge of swimming in the Allegheny River as opposed to a pool, which is a common fear of many swimmers.
When asked on how he manages to compete, Craig Dietz responded, "All of my weight is centered, I am extremely buoyant. I can’t dive. I wish that I could." Dietz finished 275th out of 308 participants.
