Kargil/Srinagar, September 24 (Scoop News) – State Empowered Committee headed by Chief Secretary, S.S. Kapur today visited Kargil to take stock of restoration works initiated by the Government following cloudburst and flash-floods in the district.
The Committee inspected Pashu and Darethung rivers and reviewed rehabilitation measures including reconstruction of link roads, bridges and irrigation canals and water supply schemes.
The Committee also convened a joint meeting of Kargil Hill Development Council (KHDC) and took appraisal of the measures put in place for restoration of basic infrastructure in the district.
Chief Executive Councilor, Kachu Ahmad Ali Khan, Executive Councilors and Deputy Commissioner Kargil, M. Raju participated in the meeting.
Raju briefed the meeting about the measures taken by the administration for expeditious reconstruction of damaged infrastructure. He said as many as 16 residential houses were completely damaged in the flash floods while 38 residential structures have been damaged partially. He said that bank account numbers of all the affected families have been collected and dispatched to the concerned authorities so that relief amount is deposited into their accounts.
The Deputy Commissioner further apprised the meeting that of the total 139 link roads damaged in the calamity as many as 96 link roads have been temporarily restored to ensure road communication in such areas, adding the work on rest of the schemes is going on apace.
Likewise, 62 irrigation schemes and 80 water supply schemes have been restored. He said of the total 990 damaged rural development schemes as many as 169 schemes have been rebuilt.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Secretary stressed on redoubling efforts to ensure restoration of all damaged public infrastructure in the shortest possible time. He assured that funds will not be any constraint for reconstruction of basic and vital infrastructure in PHE, Irrigation, R&B and other sectors in the district. He also directed for speeding up acceleration of reconstruction works to ensure their completion before the onset of winter.
