Srinagar, January 15 (Scoop News) –Calling the latest move of distributing 5 kgs of LPG per cylinder as a “cruel joke”, the Peoples Democratic Party Monday said that this latest ‘Tughlaq Shahi’ directive will further crumble the supply of basic amenities that has already been rattled due to snowfall and sloppy govt response.
In a joint communiqué, Senior PDP leaders, Mohd Dilawar Mir, Ab Rehman Veeri, Mohammed Sartaj Madni, Adv Ab Haq Khan and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain lashed out the govt’s latest move and termed it “Backbreaking” for the common man who has already been pushed to wall due to repeated failures of govt to deliver.
General Secretary PDP, Mohd Dilawar Mir, said that in addition to 16 hours of load shedding and amid the failure to restore electricity to various parts of the valley post snowfall, the decision to cut down LPG supply has only exposed govt’s tall claims as a complete farce. With the first hint of winters and the renewed snow, the govt machinery which was only based on meetings, gatherings and statistics crumbled like a pack of cards, He said.
Dilawar said that govt has been caught “pants down” by three inches of snow and, instead of preparing for the eventuality it doled out hollow assurances of having stockpiled essential commodities. He said that the latest decision to cut down gas supply is symptomatic of NC govt’s failures, which has been in survival mode itself from the last three years of its governance. Dilawar questioned the logic of the decision and said “how does the govt expect people to cook without gas let alone using it for heating purposes.”
Member Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rehman Veeri also condemned this decision and said that it will further perpetuate Peoples problems to chaotic heights as they are already reeling under severe shortage of essential commodities, particularly cooking gas. Veeri said that no action has been taken to check black marketing and those involved in it which apparently suggests that officials in administration are also a party to such activities. Instead the barrel of the gun has been turned towards the people who since beginning have been at the received end, Veeri said.
He added that assurances of providing replacement transformers to broken ones has plagued the entire south Kashmir as majority of transformers are lying defunt or damaged as there is no look after to them by the administration.
Terming the “visits” of Chief Minister to different parts of valley as ‘eyewash,’ Peoples Democratic Party also accused the CM and its govt of fooling the people by portraying normal situation as nothing practical has been done on ground.
Deputy Speaker, Mohd Sartaj Madni lashed out at the govt and said that “surprise visits” and “exclusive tours” are useless based on personal considerations and are not only flawed but also betray govt’s self perceived notion that everything is running smooth in the state. He said that only naïve and ignorant will believe that these visits of the Government is anything more than mere tokenism and photo opportunities.
Abdul Haq Khan, MLA Lolab, also said that it was a worrying situation that when visits of highest authority of state, fails to yield any results on ground than how can one expect that its govt will deliver. Khan said the visits made by CM, failed to diffuse the crisis even in minimal proportions and instead has set a dangerous precedent of incompetence for its officials to follow.
Peerzada Mansoor, MLA Shangus, added that in south Kashmir alone majority of districts, villages and hamlets are still cut off and without electricity from the previous snowfall. He said that traffic mismanagement is on its peak due to latest snow fall which has totally crippled the main towns and it is for the first time that National highway has not been cleared on time, resulting in a blockage of essential commodities. Basic services have almost disappeared, essential commodities are now a rare sight to see and sufferings of people have increased exponentially, Mansoor added.
