So we’ve been told It’s a small world after all. And thanks to technological advancements,
the statement has begin to state its exactitude louder than ever.
The world of science and media has improved immensly; creating and gifting civilisation with countless accessories to communincate and coincide together; both as a society and conflicting communities.
A person sitting somewhere twelve thousand miles away right now doesn’t seem unapproachable and all that far away like they may have, a few decades ago. The added beauty of this phenomenan is that now, unlike before, the person can be approached at very low costs; sometimes even free (Incase of Instant messaging).
As Bill gates and his company along with Apple shaped the world by creating a whole new variety of operating systems easily accessible and useable for the personal home computer; communication technologies begin to climb all new levels together.
The internet in its earlier days seemed like a luxury, but nowadays it’s almost become a layman’s priority. Soon it will be life’s neccessity; as it is speeding its way up into the lives of students and general E-commercial enthusiastics, etc.
Innovators have designed several instant messaging programs that run on MAC OS systems and Microsoft Windows, accessible via internet such as the windows LIVE messenger, YAHOO instant messaging, Google talk.
Now, in the cyber world a user has unlimited facilities like chat rooms, social networking, instant messaging, online file sharing, etc. Bandwith speed usually never affects Instant messaging as minimal speed is required to so. This has only enhanced and pulled more users.
The notebook’s price has fallen down dramatically, allowing a wide range of consumers to purchase them. The personal computer is so cheap; almost anyone who can afford to buy a motorcycle, can also afford a personal computer.
Telecommunication is tearing through the zenith and it doesn’t seem to stop just right there. A sententious feature of mobile telecommunication has added to the list of its wide range of options suchas the now drastically popular trend of text messaging.
Text messaging, or texting is the common term for the sending of "short" (160 characters or fewer, including spaces, newer phones can hold up to 20 pages of 160 characters) text messages from mobile phones using the Short Message Service (SMS).
SMS gateways are to connect mobile SMS services with instant message (IM) services, the world wide web, desktop computers, and even landline telephones (through speech synthesis).
*All of these facilities and easing advantages in communication technologies have literally shaped the way we interact. Socialisation has been redefined. There are stunning statistics, being evident to how the modern world is indulging in the euphoric way of instant messaging.
More than half of the Canadian kids use the Internet for instant messaging and a lum sum 27 percent of them, use it almost everyday.
Only twenty eight percent of parents are aware that their children use instant messaging. The time consumed using instant messaging varies (according to a survey) from 7.5 hours per week to 10 minutes per month. The average amount of time spent using messaging services was 4.7 hours per week..
Secondary school kids, usually girls use a lot of instant messaging facilities. Many kids begin to talk with strangers through Instant messaging. This is slightly dangerous particulary because the child could be dragged to unknown or unpleasant societies (In rare cases).
Most of the students in high school stated that they used instant messaging for school projects while most university students did not. Even though the main focus of kids usually while doing so has been to socially interact and converse in a way where they somehow feel more expressive and comfortable. They are granted an advantage to veil their facial expressions and personalities as they would normally have to (In the real world); thus liberating them to create personalities of whatever kind they want. They can be the superheroes they desired to be behind the window if they set themselves up correctly.
This creates a negative impact on social interaction as realization. When, and if the people meet, and identify the conflicts and improbabilities that lay between the two personalities, the lies, delusions and mirages set by each other– bonds topple, creating great levels of conflict in opinions.
Instant and text messaging could also affect people psychologically, boosting their self esteem levels when and if they tend to give birth to and operate their alter egos in the cyber world. This perfect personality created, could recieve unanimous or unrealistic praise by strangers online. It makes an individual addicted to the praise and motivates them to go far beyond in creating a better personalization of what they desire to be.
But this substantially fake personality could also lead to complexes if the two, online strangers decide to meet. Kids normally, find themselves in confusing situations at such occurances. This leads to stress, anxiety and complex and depression in severe cases.
A recent study from Forrester Research, Inc. indicates mobile instant messaging (IM) on the rise in Europe with 26.7 million users in 2007 and a projected 80 million users in 2013. The survey was held on a specimen of 22.000 buyers in: France, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Spain, United Kingdom.
Various years after the launch of IM mobile operators appear less than exuberant about this technology, terrified by cannabilization of profits absorbed from messaging services (SMS), even though the growth of IM is seen as “inevitable.” All this will have an important effect on web and search technology as mobile devices become a structural part of work and leisure activities.
As the world tends to move further, technological systems continue to advance further in their initiative to build better, faster and realistic ways of communication. But all of this has had a slightly adverse affect on the way people communicate. Kids, now don’t go out and play; they’re stuck at homes talking to strangers who could be murders for all we know. Sociapaths, get easier way to manipulate people and destroy their lives.
Social activity has improved but also created large amounts of depression in people collectively.
There is a dramatically falling number of people and students in particular taking high amount of interests in extra cirricular activities. Movies like Wall-E have also tried to give out a message that digital world and the phenomenan of globalization has made this world smaller but much more unhealthy and lazy.
As we move forward, we are responsible to improve the way of social interaction individually, but it is a rising concern for parents and everyone for that matter that people are being targeted as "users" and being turned in to brain less cyber organisms. Although, the facilities being granted to us have been a great ease, we must also realize that it has brought great distractions and routes to depression to the youth of today. Maybe an unstable world, brain washing and every bomb that explodes out there is a result of globalization. The closer we come. The more we collide.
