A Pakistani group of hackers calling itself “Zombie KSA” has hacked several Indian government websites including that of the Crime Branch CID of Andhra Pradesh. The hackers, who defaced the website with their message and threats, apparently accessed the information about ten most wanted criminals and suspected terrorists.
The additional director general of police Abdul Khayyum Khan told the media in Hydrabad that the information accessed by the hackers was open and general in nature. “They could not reach any important or secret information on the site”, he said adding that a high level inquiry has been ordered on how the hackers could hack the site.
As a result of the hacking, the CID website had gone blank for some time but now it has been restored. The hacking has come a shock for the Andhra Pradesh police which is ahead of several other states in Indian in dealing with the Cyber crimes including the hacking. It has a separate laboratory to deal with such crimes.
Zombie accepted the responsibility for hacking the CID site saying it was retaliation against the hacking of some Pakistani websites by Indian hackers. It also claimed to have hacked several other websites including that of Bank of Baroda, the Oil and Natural Gas commission and National Remote Sensing Agencies and central government schools.
The attack on the Indian websites came after a group of Indian hackers “Guards of Hindustan” hacked in to the website of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority of Pakistan and deleted its data.
In the cyber circles, thess tit for tat attacks are being described as “cyber war” between the neighbors India and Pakistan.
