Dad kills pregnant girl for honour

In yet another incident of honour killing, an enraged father strangulated his unwed daughter to death after he discovered that she was pregnant. Thanedar Singh, resident of Chittapurva village in Kanpur Dehat district, took his younger daughter Kusma to the house of his elder daughter Meera in Injurampurva village on Thursday.As soon as he reached the railway tracks on the outskirts of the village, he tried to push Kusma before a moving train. But Kusma managed to save herself.  Singh then pulled the girl into the nearby bushes and strangled her.  Thanedar Singh then went to Meera’s house and told her in-laws that Kusma had been run over by a train. Singh then left the place and is absconding ever since.When Meera’s family members went to the tracks to look for the body, they found Kusma lying dead in the bushes.  Meera’s husband Vinod lodged a report at the Rura police station.  Talking to reporters, he said, “We were surprised by the abrupt behaviour of Thanedar Singh when he came to inform us of Kusma’s death. He would not tell us about the exact location of he ‘accident’ and appeared tried and scared.”The ASP, Mr Kanpur Dehat, has confirmed that Kusma was pregnant at the time of her death. “It is a case of honour killing. The father was probably scared of the humiliation he would have to face in society and hence murdered the girl ruthlessly. We are searching for him,” he said.
