In four weeks time Thomas Beatie, the World’s first pregnant man will give birth to his daughter and demonstrate to the world how daddies can become the new mummies.
Thomas is a sex change papa, who was born Tracy and was a Miss Teen Hawali finalist in his girl days.But Tracy had a sex change operation ten years ago and though he got rid of the breasts, kept the ovaries and womb.
A legally classified man, who enjoys a normal sex life with his wife, he decided to try for a baby as his partner had a hysterectomy. The first time he became pregnant he had a miscarriage, but he has been lucky with his second pregnancy.
While ethicists and moral brigade may disapprove but gynecologists say there is nothing to worry about.Both the daddy and baby will be fine.
According to Dr.Radhika Thirumala, DGO,’The harmones and organs seem intact, so there is no problem with him carrying the child. But he can’t breast feed but many working mothers too don’t do it any more.
Thomas has been quoted as saying,The desire to have a child is neither of a male or female but it is a human one. He will be the child’s father and his wife the mother, the Beaties don’t feel what they are doing is abnormal.
Dr.Revathi Ramasamy, gynecologist Medicity hospital doesn’t approve of Thomas’actions as she feels that he is suffering from a severe identity crisis, but says when menopausal women can have kids so can he. ‘Biologically it’s ok, the child will be healthy.It is the emotional issues that the family should be concerned about.’she adds.
Dr.Jothi Raja, psychologist says the family plays a major role in preparing the child to accept the circumstances.
‘There will be a few emotional disturbances, but they are not worrying.When test tube babies were born the same concerns were raised, but this is making news because this is the first of its kind. With time there will be no social stigma.
As long as the parents are well prepared and bring up the child well, there will be no trouble.And baby Beatic won’t be one of her kind, because if not anybody else.Thomas plans on having more babies in the future.
