More than 350 students, some of them are standing for more than an hour, raise their hand all together to show their commitment against Tobacco, to break the marketing chain of the tobacco companies and to say No to tobacco. The scene was recorded at the final stage of the Anti Tobacco Campaign at Daffodil International University, Dhaka on 18th November 2008. The campaign was organized by BdOSN, hosted by the university and supported by WHO, Bangladesh. The chairman of DIU, Mr Sabur Khan, formally declared the campus as – no smoking campus. Before this declaration, the students gathered were enlighten and aware about the harm of the tobacco. The teachers and guest enjoyed the programme with three guest of honour – Mr Sabur Khan, Chairman, DIU, Professor Dr Aminul Islam, Vice Chancellor, DIU and Mr Anisul Hoque, Deputy Editor of Daily Prothom Alo. Dr Iqbal Kabir of WHO programme presented the basic information and some dangerous fact about tobacco. He mentioned that Tobacco is the single largest reason for the death of people around the world. Mr Munir Hasan conducted the session.
In his speech, Mr Anisul Hoque said that the life is more precious than anything else in this world and drug not only destroyed the addicted life, it also ruined the life of his or her family. Professor Dr Aminul Islam explained the secret behind of his healthy life at the age of only 74. He mentioned that he has never been addicted to any harmful practices. The students participated in a spot quiz on tobacco and open source and were awarded with book. The programme was arranged as a part of BdOSN’s anti tobacco campaign.
