Leh, June 29, (Scoop News)- The Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama today in Leh unveiled the statue of 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpoche at the newly created 19th Bakula Memorial Park near KBR airport, Leh dedicated in the name of late Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, who is considered as the doyen of modern Ladakh.
In his address to a large gathering, The Dalai Lama said, “Late Bakula Rinpoche was a great friend of mine, he studied for seven years in Tibet before returning to Ladakh. He developed a good relation with Pandit Nehru, and went on to serve Ladakh towards its modernization.”
Later recollecting the contributions of late Bakula Rinpoche Nawang Rigzin Jora, J&K Minister for Urban Development on the occasion said, “It is apt to call him the father or architect of modern Ladakh, and those of us who are in politics have always tried to follow his footpath in delivering our services to the people of Ladakh both in terms of politics as well as religion.”
Expressing gratitude for making the inaugural day a blissful occasion Chairman LAHDC, Rigzin Spalbar said, “We have always made our best efforts to diligently follow the teaching and preaching of late Bakula Rinpoche while remembering his unprecedented contributions towards entire Ladakh.”
After the function, organised by LAHDC, Leh and facilitated by Army, he paid a visit to Pethub Gonpa – the principal monastery of Bakula Rinpoche – on his way to Likir Gonpa where His Holiness is going to give preaching for three days.
