Convicted murderer Dale Leo Bishop was put to death in a Mississippi prison on Wednesday night.
Before his death he issued an apology to the family of Marcus Gentry, the man he beat to death in 2000. "To Mark’s family," Dale Leo Bishop said to Gentry’s mother and uncle who were present at the execution, "I would like to express my sincerest apologies. It was a senseless act. It was a needless act. The world is worse off without him.”
Dale Leo Bishop’s ex-wife and nephew were also in attendance for his death yesterday but his three teen-age sons were not. Over the course of the day on Wednesday, however, Bishop had about 20 visitors to his holding cell.
The execution went smoothly and Dale Leo Bishop was pronounced dead at 6:14 p.m. For his last meal Bishop ate pineapple pizza, cherries and cream ice cream and root beer.
