Jammu, May 18, (Scoop News)-Chairman of the Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha (DSUS) Onkar Nath Chandra has announced setting up of Sheela Devi Memorial scholarships for school going girl child from the current academic year.
Girls studying in class 1 to 12 would be eligible for earning the scholarship.
The scholarships have been set up in the memory of Sheela Devi, co chairperson of the Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha.
Sheela Devi passed away after brief illness on April 28.
Elaborating on the aims and objectives behind setting up meritorious scholarship for the bright child Chairman of the Sanstha said, Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha under Project PAHL is already engaged in the task of imparting education to street children and rag pickers.
At present around 300 street children,majority of them hailing from Chattisgarh,Madhya Pradesh and other Naxal hit areas of Bihar and Orissa are enrolled for formal education in Project PAHL.
Hema Jatwar, one of the senior student hailing from Chattisgarh recently passed her class 12 exam.She is one of the teachers engaged by the sanstha for imparting formal education to the street children.
Hema Jatwar’s elder sister also taught in the same school and helped PAHL team in starting the education centre.
In his message Onkar Nath Chandra said the sanstha has decided to award scholarships to deserving children so that they can focus on their education without worrying for the cost involved.
The scholarships would be awarded to the needy children after thorough screening of the applications, the Chairman of the Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha announced.
