The murder case of Juarez drug carter enforcer Daniel "Chino" Lopez will continue today in a Memphis court and might go to jury by the end of the day.
Daniel "Chino" Lopez, 29, is charged in the murder of Taurus Vester, 32 and his girlfriend, Octavia Nelson, 30. The couple was killed in 2005 after Lopez and two other gunmen accused them of stealing three kilos (6.6 pounds) of cocaine.
The court heard testimony yesterday from Orel Chapa, a co-defendant in the case, who said he was driving the car when Daniel "Chino" Lopez and two others shot and killed Taurus Vester and Octavia Nelson in the back seat. Alvin Malone, one of the other men Chapa said pulled the trigger was convicted in 2006 and is serving a life sentence in jail. The third, Alberto "Cesar" Tellez, has been charged but not yet tried for the crime.
