Isha Ambani, the daughter of RIL chairman, Mukesh Ambani, has been included in the 2015 Forbes magazine’s list of 12 ‘power businesswomen’. She is joined by Radhika Piramal, daughter of the Chairman of VIP Industries, Dilip Piramal, The magazine has named women entrepreneurs from Asia.
These two are considered to be the generation next of the country’s corporate sector. At the age of 23, Isha is a director at Reliance’s telecom venture, Reliance JioInfocomm, and Reliance Retail Ventures. On the other hand, Radhika is the Managing Director (MD) of VIP Industries.At the age of 36, she is said to give a new life to VIP Industries after the invasion of multinationals
Forbes mentioned that the report includes list of 12 ’savvy, ambitious women.’It also said that some of the women are leading towards creating outstanding reputations while others are trainees that show a quick learning potential.
Isha Ambani of Reliance
After completing her graduation in double majors in psychology and South Asian studies from Yale University in 2013, Isha worked as a business analyst at the New York office of McKinsey & Company in April, 2014. She then became a member inthe board of Reliance Jio and its retail arm in October, 2014.
Other women in the list
The report given by Forbes also includes other prominent names like Akhila Srinivasan who is the MD/Non-Executive Director at Shriram Life Insurance/Shriram Capital; MD and CEO of ICICI Bank, Chanda Kochhar and CEO of Axis Bank, Shikha Sharma. Other women are Arundhati Bhattacharya, Chairman of State Bank of India; MD of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), Usha Sangwan and Founder, Chairman and MD of Biocon, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw. MD and CEO at Metropolis Healthcare, Ameera Shah and Head of strategic projects at Cipla, Samina Vaziralli are also mentioned in the list.
Usha Sangwanof LIC
Usha Sangwan of LIC also came as a surprise in the list. Forbes said that appointment of Usha as the MD of LIC was a historic moment.No other woman has ever been given that post. LIC is considered to be India’s biggest government-owned insurer. It has assets worth of $287 billion and is associated with more that 1.1 million agents and 250 million customers. Being the daughter of one of the richest men of India, Lachhman Das Mittal, Usha has acquired a degree in economics from Panjab University. In 1981, Usha joined LIC as a direct-recruit officer. Two years ago, she became the MD of the company.
Akhila Srinivasan of Shriram
Akhila Srinivasan, the MD of Shriram Life Insurance propelled the company to be namedamong the top five private companies on the basis of profit, among industries across the country. She did this in less than 10 years. Last year, the company changed its number of employees from 5,500 to 9,000 after recruiting a pool of new talents. The premiums collected by the company increased to $695 million. This is around 17-times the figure than seven years hence.
