DC’s Crime Museum to Host CSI Summer Camp for Kids

This summer kids have the opportunity to become crime scene investigators. Those with an interest in forensic science or law enforcement will get hands-on experience at DC’s Crime Museum’s CSI Summer Camp. The camp will provide morning, afternoon, full-day and one-day sessions in July. Students will have the opportunity to learn real techniques used in the field today.

“This is a perfect opportunity for kids who are interested in learning about the process that they see on TV crime shows,” says Janine Vaccarello, Chief Operating Officer of the Crime Museum. “These workshops allow kids the opportunity to learn and apply every step of the forensic process to reach the end goal of solving a case.”

The CSI summer camp will teach children skills such as taking crime scene photographs, searching for evidence, creating a case file to keep track of evidence, collecting fingerprints, analyzing blood splatter, the act of processing and packaging evidence, the judicial system and what it is like to present a case in court. This is a great experience for your aspiring CSIs, medical examiners, doctors, police officers, criminal defense or prosecution attorneys and/or anything within the criminal justice field.

To participate in the program, all children must be 12 years old or older and be comfortable learning about the subject matter. All necessary supplies will be provided and a participants will receive a museum t-shirt at the conclusion of the camp. For full-day, one-day and morning camp children, all participants must bring a bagged lunch and drink.
