The Democrats have blamed the continuing strike by the Writer’s Guild of America for the cancellation of the debates that were scheduled to be taking place on December 10. It is said most of the Democratic candidates including the front-runners stated that they would not cross through the picket lines set outside of the studio.
According to a CBS spokeswoman, the decision on the event would be finalized by the Democratic National Committee. They have been picketing outside CBS studios since early November. However, they are planned to be supported and joined by the CBS newswriters.
The WGA continued to picket though CBS had asked them to suspend picketing for that one day. So far, John Edwards has appeared at WGA rallies on both coasts to show support.
