Declare recent heavy rains as natural calamity: JK BJP

Jammu, August 17 (Scoop News)-BJP JK State President & MLA Nagrota Assembly Constituency Jugal Kishore Sharma, who visited the rains affected villages of Dansal block, interacted with the people in a number of villages, took stock of their problems arising out of the rains and sought their suggestions for early restoration of essential services.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, while expressing grave concern over the plight of the people, said that the rains have badly damaged houses, school buildings, health institutions, there is no electricity as the poles in many areas have been uprooted, road connectivity has been badly affected, there is no drinking water. The helpless people are forced to spend nights in open when the rain is pouring regularly.
Jugal Kishore Sharma said that the government should declare the recent rains and floods as natural calamity and gear up all the concerned departments to be operational and reach the affected areas for the help of the people. He said that the state government should immediately depute teams of revenue department to visit the affected areas for assessment of the losses caused to the movable and immovable properties besides loss to the standing crops, prepare their claims and forward the same to the higher officials for provision of adequate compensation.
Jugal Kishore Sharma said that in the meantime the government should provide tents to the people and direct the PHE, PDD and other departments to undertake the repair works so that the people are not made to suffer any more and are connected to other parts of the state.

Meanwhile JKDF expressed concern over the havoc played by the heavy rains and floods in Jammu region.
Expressing concern over the havoc played by the heavy rains and floods in Jammu Division in which thousands of houses, roads, and many human lives are washed away, JKDF State President Anil Gupta demanded immediate assessment of the loss to public/private property and compensation to victims of this natural calamity.

In the past, Anil Gupta pointed out the relief is not provided in time or even never provided. The matter is forgotten and the sufferers continue to face the agony because of the natural calamities coupled with mere lip sympathy and loud pronouncements.

In this regard, he pointed out that there was great devastation in Ladakh due to cloud bursts in August 2010, and many high ups, so much so, the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh himself visited Ladakh. Besides expressing his sympathies with the sufferers, he had also announced a relief package of Rs. 125 Crore. About three years have elapsed but this package still remains to be implemented, he added and observed the people of Ladakh as also those of Jammu areas, thus generally feel discriminated against because of regional and other considerations.

Anil Gupta also demanded compensation to farmers who have completely loss their crops due to the heavy rainfall during the past few days. Questioning the NC-Congress coalition for their failure to Repair and reconstruct the damaged roads, He pointed out that roads all over Jammu region including the winter capital City of Jammu are being converted into pit falls due to poor maintenance and construction work. The vehicular movements on these roads have become a troublesome effort. He stressed for taking of immediate steps for repairing of damaged roads with standard quality material and supervision of work by experienced engineers.
