Jammu, September 19, (Scoop News)- Thirty one journalists from pan India both from print and electronic had congregated at Kochi for the Defense Correspondents Course which had commenced on 20th August 2014. Lt Col NN Joshi, PRO Srinagar was the course conducting officer. The participants of the course after the Navy, Airforce and Army module at various locations had been on a Forward Area Tour from 14 to 19 September 2014 in the area of Cross Swords and Ace of Spades Division.
The most exciting and thrilling module was the Forward Area Tour which started on 14 September 2014. The journalists were given a chance to see the Anti Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) popularly known as the Line of Control (LC) Fence. They visited the Corps Battle School, Sarol in order to witness the orientation training of soldiers who are newly inducted into the Corps Zone. They also visited forward posts on the Line of Control to witness first hand, the manner in which the troops operate on the Line of Control in particular they were part of an ambush at night and also spent time in a bunker to feel what it is like. They shared the hardship and privation with the soldiers on the forward posts. They also visited various goodwill projects undertaken by the Army.
The valedictory function for the course was held at Nagrota. Sitanshu Kar, DG, Media and Communication first called on the Corps Commander, Lt Gen KH Singh and thereafter both of them interacted with the journalists of the course which was followed by the valedictory function. Col Raj Kumar of White Knight Corps delivered the opening address & interacted with the course participants at Nagrota. The Chief Guest of the occasion Sitanshu Kar, awarded the certificates to the participants and emphasized on positive and factual reporting on defence matters. Speaking on the occasion, he said that “the aim of the course was to get journalists from all over the country to give an overview of the functioning of the three wings of the Armed Services. He called upon the journalists to build upon the experience they had gained”. He also thanked the Army, Air Force and Navy for their support for conducting this DCC-2014 smoothly.
