Defense Minister A K Antony`s statement about unprovoked killings of Indian soldiers in Poonch sector has earned him not only disrepute, but has put question mark on his understanding of the situation.
His statement that the soldiers were killed by “terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistan Army uniform” has created a lot of controversy.
Today, he updated Prime Minister on the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir where five troops were killed by the Pakistani Army and Jihadi.
Defence Minister A K Antony has come under severe attack for the statement, with Opposition saying it tent amounted to giving a break to Pakistan which has always disowned the association of its army workforces against Indian territorial jurisdiction. He tried to shield his statement by saying it was made on the basis of information arriving at that time.
Antony stated before both the Houses of Parliament yesterday, that an Indian Army patrol headed by one junior commissioned officer and five other ranks was ambushed by 20 heavily-armed terrorists along with persons dressed in Pakistan army uniform on Indian side of the LoC in Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir State. In the consequent fire exchange, five Indian soldiers were killed and one soldier was injured.
