Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said that Pakistan is committed to the political, moral and diplomatic support of the people of Kashmir in their struggle for the right of self-determination. He expressed confidence that the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) will continue to lend its valuable support for the Kashmir cause, while talking to Ambassador Ezzat Kamel Mufti, Special Representative of OIC Secretary General on Kashmir, at the Prime Minister House.
The Prime Minister termed Ambassador Ezzat Kamel Mufti’s visit to Pakistan and Pakistan held Kashmir as crucial because of its timing to gain first hand information on the recent entirely indigenous uprising in the Indian part of Kashmir.
He said a Special Representative Report would be very helpful for the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, which was to meet in New York later this month during the 63rd session of UN General Assembly.
He said the Contact Group’s meeting on September 24 in New York, will be a great source of strength and inspiration for the people of Kashmir.
The Prime Minister commended the OIC Secretary General for his statement of August 13, calling upon the Indian government to end violence against the innocent Kashmiris.
He said that heavy handedness by the Indian forces has created a difficult situation for the people and scores of Kashmiris who have been martyred including prominent Hurriyet leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz.
The Prime Minister said Pakistan was a peace-loving country and desires to resolve all outstanding issues with India through dialogue including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir Ezzat Kamel Mufti told the Prime Minister that the OIC attached very high importance to the resolution of Kashmir issue. The OIC Kashmir Contact Group holds its regular meetings at every OIC Summit ICFM and on the sidelines of United Nations General Assembly every year to evaluate the latest situation in the Indian part of Kashmir.
He said that it has also called on India and the International community for expeditious peaceful resolution of the dispute. He apprised the Prime Minister that OIC has so far failed attempts to send a fact-finding good-will mission to the Indian part of Kashmir to take stock of the current situation there.
He regretted that, despite OIC’s numerous attempts, the Indian government had opted not to respond to its requests.
