CHITRAL: Focus Humanitarian Assistant for Pakistan, Chitral branch, arranged a three-day long training for volunteers group as well as for local community to train them how to rescue injured persons safely from debris and dead bodies in flash flood situations. ICIMOD financially supported ‘Focus’ for these activities. The volunteers groups were trained to remove debris in case of flash floods and to rescue injured person safely without any more harming them and recover dead bodies if any. Their volunteers groups demonstrated desk cutting, wall cutting and iron cutting in case of collapse of any heavy building to rescue the people inside the building safely. They also used of snake eye camera in their demonstration to search human body inside a collapsed building. They physically demonstrated carrying of any injured person or dead body across the river with the help of rope, where there is no bridge or any other source of transportation. These training of 7 days and finally of 3 days was a part to develop awareness among the local community regarding response in case of any natural disaster, calamity like flash flood, earthquake and fire.
These search and rescue teams comprising of male and female volunteers sophisticatedly exhibited of giving first aid to injured persons in case of any emergency. All these activities were done at Reshun canal where focus volunteers traveled with the help of a rope across the river and shifted injured persons and dead bodies if any to train and aware the local community how to overcome these crises in such circumstances. Amir Muhammad, program Manager supervised all these activities. In this connection a simple but prompt function was also held at Reshun to pay tribute to local volunteers and community especially women folk. Dr. Karim of AKHS was chief guest on the on the occasion while the ceremony was presided over by Bubul Aman Vice president of BLSO. The speakers stressed upon the local community to must benefited from such fruitful trainings and workshop to overcome any critical situation in case of natural calamity. They said that this is responsibility of every human being to save the others, which is the real destination and main objective of Islamic teachings. Amir Muhammad Program Manager said that focus Chitral have trained and prepared a group of 19000 volunteers, both male and female, in 47 clusters. He said disaster management awareness is must for citizens to use their during disaster. He said majority of inured people died at tremendous earthquake at Kashmir due to unawareness and negligence of local community. Hamiduddin, member of Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) said that main objectives of creation of human being are to save and support other people when they need their help. The speakers emphasized on local community to must train and be aware regarding participating in any search and rescue activities. A large number of male and women folk participated the ceremony.
