While a crowd of several hundred were warm towards Mitt Romney, the crowd gave boos to John McCain.
“Senator McCain is a wonderful person,” Mitt Romney said of his fellow GOP hopeful and rival for the race. But, that had drawn loud boos from the crowd. The former Massachusetts governor continued praising McCain saying that he is a national hero.
But that is where the kind words ended.
“He happened to say that the economy was not his strong suit,” Romney said ending the kind words about McCain. He added: “Well, in a time like this—in a country like this—I think it’s important to have a president for whom the economy is his strong suit.”
The crowd would chant: “We want Mitt! We want Mitt!”
“You’re getting the full monty,” Romney assured. He added: “Don’t worry.”
After the event, a small group of anti-abortion protesters claiming to be supporters of Alan Keyes changed that Mitt Romney was pro-abortion at an outdoor conference. However, they were drowned out by the hundreds of Romney supporters that had remained.
When he ran for Senate in 1994 and governor in 2002, Romney supported pro-choice. But, he changed his mind when taking office as Massachusetts governor.
Then Romney was asked if his campaign was looking past Super Tuesday. He admitted that it has not gone as how he expected it to be.
