Pakistani protesters burn the U.S. flag in Islamabad.
The United States government has decided, despite very serious objections to release more than $1.6 billion of military and economic aid to Pakistan. Various media sources suggest that “Congress has cleared most of the money, and it would start moving early next year (2014).”
Pakistan many argue has not been a good faith partner in the war on terror and has been complacent in the deaths of U.S. servicemen and women from terrorists groups currently using Pakistan as a safe haven to conduct attacks into Afghanistan (see article: Pakistan Safe Havens Biggest Challenge After 10 years in Afghanistan http://abcnews.go.com/WN/pakistan-safe-havens-biggest-challenge-us-10-years/story?id=14659375).
Others suggest Pakistani intelligence officials knew that Bin Laden was hiding in their country in Abbottabad, Pakistan and kept that fact a secret for years in an effort to extort funds from the U.S. based on its supposed cooperation in fighting al-Qaeda and finding Bin Laden.
It should be noted that Pakistan voiced strong opposition to the U.S. raid that killed Bin Laden – calling it a violation of international law. It also closed off supply routes into Afghanistan from the Pakistani border.
Pakistan also refused to return the wreckage of a top secret Stealth helicopter that went down during the raid.

A Pentagon source (who wished not to be identified in this report out of fear of retaliation) called the release of just over a billion dollars in military and economic aid to Pakistan at this time “a huge mistake.” He cited numerous examples of why this was not a good idea, including Pakistan’s recent buildup of nuclear weapons.
According to our source, in 2012 U.S. intelligence sources received credible information that Islamabad had recently invested hundreds of millions of dollars in a new generation of plutonium-based warheads, increased the size range of its arsenal, and improved the accuracy of its missiles.

The Pentagon source said that the United States is in effect helping to underwrite the cost of Pakistan’s buildup of nuclear weapons – which is absolutely insane!
He cited “Pakistan’s dismal human rights records “as another reason the U.S. should not be supporting the regime in Islamabad (see Human Rights Watch report 2013 http://www.hrw.org/world-report/2013/country-chapters/pakistan).
Lastly the source cited Pakistan’s support of state sponsored terrorism in Afghanistan and Kashmir as another reason why giving Pakistan money is a very bad idea on the part of the Obama Administration.
We contacted the White House in regard to this story and officials refused comment in this case.
