Chicago Illinois. Detroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez, 35, will be a free agent at the end of the 2014 Major League Baseball season.
Unless the Tigers decide to offer Martinez a new contract in the off season to remain with the team, Martinez could be playing baseball for another team in the 2015 baseball season.
One of the teams that are interested in hiring Martinez to join their team are the Chicago White Sox. The question is will Martinez if he becomes a free agent continue playing in the Major Leagues with a team that will be in contention for a playoff berth next season or will he retire from the game of baseball after 12 seasons of service.
Martinez has played in the Major Leagues with the Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers since he made his debut in the Major League in 2003.
Martinez in the 12 years he has spent in the Major Leagues has yet to win a World Series ring. The Detroit Tigers are currently in second place in the American League Central standings.
The Tigers are currently playing the Chicago White Sox in a three game series this weekend at U S Cellular Field in Chicago. It remains to be seen if what the future holds for Martinez who is nearing the end of a great baseball career in the Major Leagues.
