By defending the performance of his son, Mr.H.D.Kumarasamy when he was Chief Minister of Karnataka, his father and President of Janata Dal (Secular), Mr.Deve Gowda dismissed the claims of both the Congress and the BJP that they would secure an absolute majority in the ensuing General Elections in Karnataka.
According to him, his son has created history by establishing a second capital in Belgaum. It is a foresighted move which his predecessors either could not contemplate or achieve. The deserting of the party by various senior leaders as Siddaramiah and M.P.Prakash would not adversely affect its prospects in the coming elections.
On policy issues, the contention of BJP that Mr.yedyurappa waived the loans of farmers up to 25000 crores and reduced the interest rate to 4% are far from truth. He would soon make public the records in support of his contention.
The election plank of BJP would be that they were betrayed by his party by not fulfilling the promise of supporting the Government led by them and that of Congress would be on the recent budget and return of S.M. Krishna to the state level politics. But their efforts will not in any way cloud over the performance of his son and other former J.D. Ministers. Added to this, the Party’s secular credential would give it a special place in the minds of the people. All these would result in a positive vote for the party.
He dismissed the generally prevailing perception that Janata Dal (S) has become a father-son-party by stating that such allegations are made by those who do not have any other issues to rise.
In spite of the brave front put up by Mr.Deve Gowda, one cannot escape the impression that his party has seriously bruised its image by its inconsistent actions and this may adversely affect their prospects in the coming elections.
