52-year-old Deborah Jean Palfrey has been given the title of the “D.C. Madam” with good reason, as it was reported that she ran and operated a service that catered prostitutes to high-powered officials working in the nation’s capital of Washington DC.
On April 15, only a bit over two weeks ago, Palfrey was found guilty and convicted of running a prostitution service. This was one that catered prostitutes to the political elite of Washington DC. Her sentencing was scheduled for July 24. She had made waves in the previous year by offering to sell phone records to the highest bidding news agency as a means to raise funds for her defense.
Palfrey faced all sorts of charges other than running a prostitution service. She was convicted on the charges of racketeering, money laundering, and illegally use of mail service. However, no big names had stepped forward to give their testimony.
There were plenty of officials implicated in the DC Madam scandal.
Today, what is apparently the body of Palfrey was discovered in Tarpon Springs, Florida. According to police, the body was discovered in the shed next to a mobile. It could possibly be Palfrey’s body as the property where it was found belongs to her mother.
However, it has not been confirmed whether or not it is Palfrey or not. The cause and method of death is still being determined. At the same time, it does not seem that a DNA test has been conducted yet.
This breaking news comes in at least 83 to 84 days before Palfrey faces sentencing in which could possibly give her 50 of more years behind bars.
In a sense, this could bring up many questions.
On one end of the spectrum, it could be possible that Palfrey would contemplate and attempt suicide. When one looks at Palfrey’s current age and the punishment she could face, she would spend the rest of her life behind bars. Combine her age and the sentence, Palfrey could and would die in prison.
At the same time, the news of Palfrey’s apparent suicide has caught many off guard. This opens up speculation on whether or not Palfrey should have been placed on a suicide watch. But, Palfrey was allowed to remain free until her sentencing which is scheduled on July 24.
On a side note, this could give possible ammunition to the US presidential candidates as they have talked about cleaning up Washington.
In the case of the DC Madam apparently committing suicide, this will probably be in the headlines for a good couple of weeks. It will possibly sting many people in the future.
However, there have been talks about a possible book pending several months, in which it would give out the names of Palfrey’s clients. But, nothing has been confirmed. In that regard, that can considered as pure speculation. That could be brushed off as just a rumor.
