Jammu,April 23, (Scoop News)- Director General, Youth Services and Sports Navin Agarwal today released the annual Calendar for the departmental activities for the financial year 2014 -15.
Releasing the annual calendar here at a press conference, Mr Agarwal said that the department has drawn an exhaustive chart of activities, including sports events, seminars, Melas, awareness camps to be held during the year. He said the wide-ranging list of activities at district, divisional and state level events would have special focus on the involvement of rural youth.
Giving details about the sports and other events, he said that a number of district and state level sports events are scheduled to be held in rural areas under the Rajeev Gandhi Khel Abhiyan 2014-2015.
The state level inter district activities, he said, would include competitions in Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Baseball, Basket Ball, Boxing, Chess, Cricket, Fencing, Foot Ball, Gymnastic, Handball, Hockey , Judo , Jump rope, Kabaddi, Kho Kho, Kick boxing etc. He said the competitions in these disciplines would be held in different age groups ranging from under 14 to 19.
The DG also informed that the department has drawn a special event programme for the Specially-abled children to provide them an opportunity to exhibit their talent. He said that the intramurals have already been started and inter- school competitions at Zonal levels are also being held in various disciplines before the district level activities.
He said that directions have been issued to the district officers of the department to ensure timely conduct of zonal and district level sports competitions as per the calendar. He said that the department has been asked to involve more and more student fraternity in the domestic level competitions to hunt the local talent. He said that it would help in early organising of pre-coaching camps to prepare the potential youth for state, national, and international level championships.
Mr Agarwal also gave a resume of achievements of previous year and said that the players won 51 medals, including 2 Gold, 15 Silver and 34 Bronze medals in the 59th National School Games.
