DGP calls for joint efforts for smooth conduct of Amarnathji Yatra

Srinagar, June 23, (Scoop News)- Underscoring the need for joint efforts of all concerned agencies for smooth conduct of this year’s Amarnath Yatra, the Director General of Police, (DGP), K. Rajendra Kumar has stressed upon the security agencies and civil administration to maintain close coordination with each other.
The DGP was chairing a high level meeting of senior officers from police, para-military, intelligence and civil administration here today. The meeting was convened to take stock of security and other arrangements made for the ensuing yatra.
During the meeting senior officers representing different agencies gave detailed briefing about the deployment of manpower along the routes leading to the Holy Cave and the places of stay from both sides via Pahalgam and Baltal. Smooth regulation of traffic on both routes was discussed in detail. Detailed deliberations were held with regard to the security, police bandubast and other arrangements for making the yatra peaceful and smooth.
After receiving the briefing about the arrangements put in place, Rajendra stressed upon the officers to maintain close coordination with each other and discuss inputs on daily basis. He stressed on seeking people’s cooperation at all levels and ensure while making security and traffic arrangements that common masses do not face any inconvenience or disruption in their daily activities. It was disclosed that police control rooms have already been established at various locations which will function round the clock to facilitate the yatries.
The DGP said that security has been strengthened at all sensitive places including the railway stations, bus stands and the yatri bhawan. Civil administration is also being coordinated with to make required arrangements for the convenience of pilgrims. He asked to strengthen the communication network and maintain liaison about the arrival and departure of yatries.
Rajendra emphasized upon the officers to ensure that only the registered pilgrims go ahead towards the Cave and all unregistered persons are stopped at the checking points established on both routes. He also asked to share the inputs received among different agencies and adopt a common strategy to avert any subversive attempt. Safety of pilgrims is a major concern which would be ensured at all costs, he said. Any eventuality caused by natural disaster needs to be kept in mind while finalizing the arrangements. Disaster management force and volunteers of different organizations could be kept in readiness to meet any emerging situation, the DGP said.
The meeting was told that volunteer teams from NDMA have already reported at Pahalgam. It was also told that additional re- enforcement would be made available to regulate traffic in the areas through which the yatra would pass.
The DGP asked the Army authorities to strict to their convoy movement timings in view of the yatra and rush on the highways.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADsGP, VK Singh and SM Sahai, IsGP, Dr. B Srinivas, Deepak Kumar, MA Khan, PMOs, DIsGP, SA Mujataba, Vijay Kumar, Deputy Commissioners, S. Biswas and Sarmad Hafeez, SSP, Amit Kumar, SsP, Sheikh Junaid, Shahid Miraj, Abdul Wahid Shah and Javaid Koul and other police officers.
