Here’s another gizmo making the traditional photo film rolls obsolete. Optical majors are now offering digital photo frames to display pictures.
A digital photo frame displays digital images without the need to print them or requiring a computer to view the pictures. Though the market for digital photo frames is still in a nascent stage in the country with 60,000 units a year, it’s expected to double this year.
While some frames only display photos as a slideshow with an adjustable time interval, others have built-in speakers and are compatible with MP3 players and video files. One can adjust the screen brightness, the speed of the slideshow and more functions with the help of buttons on the device.
Depending on the memory and features, price of a digital photo frame may vary between Rs 5,000 and Rs 12,000. The device looks like any other large photo frame found in households and comes with a wireless remote and can even be wall-mounted.
“Those days are all but gone when people used to visit a photo-studio to get film roll printed and then look for suitable frames for display on the mantel. Today, digital spectrum has come up with an innovative way to display pictures,” said Moser Baer India business head (consumer electronics) Rajeev Kenue.
He added that one can transfer pictures to the memory frame directly from a digital camera or card reader in seconds and view with more ease.
