Disaster in Chamarkun

Residents of Chamarkun still deprived from drinking and irrigation water.

CHITRAL: After tremendous flood on June 24 where it took lives of 13 people and destroyed more than 19 houses there is also causes for damaging water channel and pipeline for drinking water.  Heavy flood not only ruined Ochosht village but other flood nullah in the surrounding also hit different villages. Chosho goal of Chamarkun hit the area and damaged all water channels as well as pipeline of drinking water. A large number of people especially children holding water pots in their hands waiting on the main road for Fire brigade to get drinking water. They were supplying potable water in the tanker of Fire Brigade of Tehsil Municipal Administration. A small girl Bibi Ayesha of Chamarkun told this scribe that we waiting for Fire Brigade on road side and gets some water for drinking purpose but we face great problems while we climbing on the height to took water to our houses. She said that all of pipelines have been devastated by heavy rain and flash flood as result irrigation channels also have been destroyed otherwise we would use water of stream she added. A large number of farmers and peasants   complained that their irrigation channels consisting on so many kilometers have been damaged and washed away by heavy rain and flash flood but there is no arrangement for its maintenance and restoration of water as a result their standing crops of vegetables are wreathing and they can not sow maize crop timely due to no irrigation water.

Besides it during visit to the affected area of this scribe a large number of children were seen standing on the road side waiting for Fire Brigade at Bakarabad, Faizabad, Chamarkun, Koh villages etc. Inhabitants of the area have appeal to district administration as well as Provincial government to support them for restoration of their water supply schemes and channels of irrigation water.
