Discriminations from all over the Philippines have become a habit or with emphasis, a tradition in which a great a number of people experienced degrading treatment from their fellow citizens. One of the violators of discriminations is no other than the corporate world, the business establishments that are often publicly displays their disdain to people who are not physically good looking. Every Job Advertisements highlights the preferred requirements; number one in their lists is the word “you must be good looking, if you are not qualified please do not apply.”
Usually, business establishments do not look for brains as their criteria but the physical attributes of applicants. Handsome, beautiful, fair skinned with a picture perfect bodies are in. On the other hand, the applicants have brains, graduated at the top of their class but do not have the looks of Tom Cruise or Angelina Jolie, the last thing they know is that, they’re not qualified and rejected outright. Disgusting to many but this is the reality in job hunting, in the Philippine at least.
The entertainment industry is also the worst violators of discriminations. Daily shows in TV showing on primetime are having their day full of annoying mockery to the God forsaken people, or those who are lacking appealing physical features. The actors and actresses laugh their heart out whenever they aped or derides people not their liking. They argued that it’s only a joke, but the daily habit of doing it on national TV is conspicuously an act of discrimination. TV day time hosts are also guilty of discriminations every time a contestant looks unusually ugly with dark skin, flat nose etc. These things are the effect of Filipinos penchant for having a white and flawless skin, beautiful and handsome looks, sexy and chiseled body. The people are going gaga about beauty products and face and body surgery just to have them look beautiful and handsome, and discriminates the lesser mortals. I have been used to this kind of discrimination because I suffered not once nor twice but may times.
