Dhaka, March 24 (Scooped) – Indian Border Security Force (BSF) have killed 136 in Bangladesh since January 1, 2009, as the BD Minister of Homes reports to Parliament.
"Some 170 people also suffered gunshot wounds [in BSF firing in the period], Shahara Khatun, said Thursday in response to a question from MP Niluphar Yasmin Chowdhury.
She stressed that Bangladesh during a meeting with secretary-level India in January this year had protested the killings.
Among the victims, the minister said 67 were killed in 2009, 60 in 2010 and nine until 14 March this year.
According to Human Rights Watch, an international human rights group was about 1,000 Bangladeshis killed by Indian border guards over the last decade.
Shahara said: "The Indian side of the various meetings and conferences, has assured us that, by taking the necessary measures to stop the killing of innocent people along the border."
"The Indian authorities have already ordered to use rubber bullets and BSF members to their commitment to use the test non-lethal weapon."
The decision came the conference of Director General of the border at New Delhi from March 8 to 13, she told the House.
Shahara also said the number of murders along the border had decreased due to measures taken by time.
"The Indian government has also begun to organize the trial of members participating in the BSF killing innocent citizens of Bangladesh, the minister said.
