Srinagar, September 26 (Scoop News) – Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pardeep Gupta today took stock of the arrangements for ensuing 9-day festival organized every year in this holy town on the eve of Navratras, at a meeting of officers and members of Navratra Festival Celebration Committee.
DIG, Udhampur-Reasi range, Jagjit Kumar, DIG Traffic Jammu, Shakeel Ahmed Beig, Deputy Commissioner, Reasi, Mrs Nirmal Sharma, Director Tourism, Jammu, R. S Mehta, Director Health Services, Mrs Madhu Kullar, Joint Director of Information, Soujanya Sharma, Senior officers of different departments, besides members of Navrata Festival Celebration Committee attended the meeting.
Discussing arrangements to be made by Tourism Department and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for the upcoming religious event, the Divisional Commissioner was apprised of the activities to be organized during the festival, besides other preparations made for smooth conduct of the Navratra Festival commencing from October 16 this year at Katra, the base camp of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji Shrine.
Stressing the need to make the event a great attraction for the people, Gupta asked the officers to work out impressive programmes within the available resources to ensure maximum public participation. He said, having emerged as a momentous occasion of
The Divisional Commissioner said that the main aim of organizing the festival was to showcase the cultural heritage of the region to attract maximum number of tourists.
The meeting also discussed security and other arrangements being made for the convenience of the public.
Giving detail of the events scheduled to be held during Navratra days, Director Tourism, Jammu apprised that the main programmes included cultural procession, All India Devotional Song Contest, Cultural programme by song and Drama Division and School children, Bhagwat Katha, Wrestling Competition, photo exhibition of tourist destinations, heritage walk and inter school competition, Hassya Vayang event and illumination of Shiv Khori Shrine.
