Jammu,July 25 (Scoop News) – The Power Development Department has initiated a series of measures to contain power pilferage and reduce Transmission and Distribution losses, besides approaching centre to enhance the electricity allocations to the state to meet increased energy requirements during the summer season.
The Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Pardeep Gupta stated this while chairing a meeting convened to review the position of power, PHE, Irrigation and other services in Jammu division.
The meeting discussed at length the measures taken to meet the power, water and irrigation requirements in the backdrop of continuous dry spell because of poor monsoon and shortage of energy.
The Divisional Commissioner asked the PHE and PDD functionaries to ensure round the clock deployment of staff at all stations to regulate the supply and deal with any eventuality. He particularly stressed for keeping a close check on power theft besides ensuring uninterrupted supply during the Iftar and Sheri time to avoid any inconvenience to the people during the month of Ramdan.
He also asked the functionaries of the twin departments to be quick in responding to the public complaints for their redressal.
Regarding the situation of irrigation water, the meeting was told that about eighty percent of irrigation facilities are working smoothly. He directed the officers to ensure adequate supply of irrigation water from all major canals including Ranbir Canal and Ravi Tawi Canal with emphasis on supply to tail ends.
The divisional commissioner asked the PDD department to ensure adequate power supply to the lift irrigation stations at Basantpur, pumping station so that adequate water supply could be made available in the canal to meet the requirement at the tail ends.
Among others present were District Development Commissioners of Samba, Kathua and Jammu, Mubarak Singh, Zahida Khan and Sanjeev Verma, Chief Engineers of PDD, PHE and Irrigation, SPs besides other senior officers.
