Road safety week concludes
Srinagar, January 17, (Scoop News)- In connection with the 25th Road Safety Week celebrations a concluding function was held at Banquet hall Srinagar here today organized by the SP Traffic Srinagar
Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Shalinder Kumar, DIG Traffic, Jagjit Sharma, SP Traffic Srinagar, Haseeb-ul-Rehman, faculty members and students of Law Department, Kashmir University, besides members of civil society and media persons attended the function.
Speaking on the occasion, Divisional Commissioner emphasized on the importance of road safety and need to disseminate the information about safety among the public and motor vehicle users especially the youth. He said that road widening is need of hour to curb the traffic mess.
He said despite of shortage of manpower the traffic department is playing has pivotal role in regulating and management of traffic, adding that people’s cooperation is must for minimizing the traffic mess and accidents. He stressed upon the authorities of the traffic department to continue the activities on sustained basis throughout the year so that the message becomes truly effective. Drivers have the share responsibility role to safeguard the passengers besides reducing the number of accidents on daily basis, he added.
DIG Traffic, Jagjit in his address highlighted the importance of Road Safety Week and the activities being organized by the department. He said that the department is engaged in creating road safety awareness by way of organizing such programs throughout the year.
He said it is not always because of the drivers fault that accidents occur but in Kashmir particularly in hilly areas it is road making and pedestrian blockade which leads to most of ill fated incidents, he added. As many as Rs. 4 crore have been realized as fine and tax from the traffic violators during this current besides Rs 1.50 lakh have been realized as challan, he added.
The important factors like overloading, rash and negligent driving, over speeding were also discussed on the occasion.
