In a case of assisting a woman in illegal termination of pregnancy by conducting an ultrasound test for the purpose of sex determination, the court of judicial magistrate (first class) Muktsar, on Tuesday, sentenced a doctor to three-year rigorous imprisonment along with Rs 5,000 fine. The court found the doctor guilty of conducting the test and changing the records later to avoid punishment. According to the court order, Dr PS Bhandari, a sonologist running a diagnostic centre in Muktsar, on September 1, 2002, conducted the test on Rajwinder Kaur, a pregnant woman.
