Ever since there were talks of Vijay Mallya taking over a Formula 1 team, everyone’s been speculating (or atleast hoping) that our very own Narain will get a drive… true, he could be the best driver in the country and the only one from here who has ever driven a formula 1 car in a race… also, when it was announced that Narain was not even in the reckoning for a drive on the Force India team, there were a lot of dissent from Narain loyalists that he should have gotten a drive on the Indian team… but, i seem to think otherwise… i actually think that Dr.Mallya’s decision was right…
not to point his shortcomings, but Narain has very less to talk show for himself, except for the fact that he’s the first indian to race in the Formula 1… in the one season that he drove for Jordan, he didnt impress too much, specially in the reduced US GP where he finished behind his team mate after leading for quite a bit of the race
Secondly, he’s been driving for A1 GP for quite a while and hasn’t managed to do too much to bring the team to the top there too.
The point is, when a new team is to be structured, a driver of commendable reputation is warranted and from a perspective relative to the other drivers currently on the grid, he didn’t have too much to show.
Like every Indian, i’d sure hope that Narain gets a drive on the F1 Grid, but on his own merit, rather than out of sympathy or patriotism…
