President-elect Obama’s announcement that his choice of puppy for his daughter Malia and Sasha has been reduced down to two triggered a nationwide ‘quarrel’ over which of the choices is most desirable to roam around the halls of the White house.
Leading the quarrel are two popular personalities and they are Sen. Ted Kennedy, a senior senator from Massachusetts and a member of the famous Kennedy clan and the equally popular Henry Winkler, a famous actor, director and a popular TV personality.
Ted Kennedy is endorsing the Portuguese Water Dog (PWD) or Porty because porties have a ‘can do and helpful spirit, they are smart, they are resilient, they are determined, they are optimistic and they are tireless’, Kennedy said in a report by John Berman of ABC news
Sen. Kennedy said that ‘a Portuguese Water Dog is a perfect choice for the first dog. The Obama girls-and their parents- will love the Portuguese water dog. They are loyal, loving and they become real part of the family and they definitely do not shed. And if they are lucky, they will find a real smart dog like mine who can even write a book. Winkler on the other hand is pushing for the labradoodle for the ‘First Dog’. He said. ‘The labradoodle is smart, the labradoodle is sweet, the labradoodle is filled with the spirit of life. The Labradoodle hops everywhere, he doesn’t just walk, or Labradoodle is a girl, her name is Charlette And I promise you if the President has a Labradoodle in the White House, he can have that dog on the economic team’.
In a comment posted by David Jorgensan, “I thought the Obama’s made it clear that they would adopt a shelter dog. No offense taken on either Mr. Kennedy or Mr. Winkler, I doubt these breeds are common in shelters’.
Labradoodle is an Australian cross breed of Labrador retriever and Standard Poodle. It was done in 1989 by Australian breeder Wally Conron. His aim was to combine the low shedding coat of poodle and the gentleness and trainability of Labrador and to provide a guide dog for people who have allergies.
The Portuguese water dog originated in Portugal and was noted for being favorite companion dogs of fishermen because of their exceptional ability to retrieve lost tackles or broken nets and acts as couriers from ship to ship or ship to shore. This dog breed is non-shedding. Portuguese
