Jammu, March 23 (Scoop News) — Minister for School Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed today informed the Legislative Council that teaching of Dogri language in primary and upper primary schools of Jammu division has been introduced since 2003, adding that at present the Dogri language is being taught to 94076 students in 4678 schools of the division. The subject has also been introduced at +two level as optional subject, he added.
Replying to a question by Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, the Minister said that teachers are recruited as general line teachers without any subject specificity.
The Minister said that the subject of Dogri was earlier taught only in four colleges of Jammu division. He said in order to promote the Dogri language, the subject has been introduced in 12 more colleges during the last two years.
In reply to another question by Khalid Najib Suharawardy, the Minister informed the House that the Government has decided to put on hold the upgradation process of schools and instead shifted the focus on consultation of the infrastructure of already upgraded schools.
The Minister said that from 2002 till date, 10 middle schools and 9 high schools have been upgraded to the next higher levels in Doda Constituency, out of which, two higher secondary schools are presently functioning by internal adjustment of staff.
Regarding the upgradation of High School, Trown, the Minister said that the case has been already examined and considered in the light of the directions of High Court, adding that the department could not upgrade the School at this stage.
