Dolkar, “army’s daughter” brings laurels for her native place- Ladakh,

Leh, (Ladakh), June 8, (Scoop News)_Chewang Dolkar (18), a native girl from Leh has brought laurels to her place of birth by securing 89 percent marks in her 12th standard examinations recently. Dolkar and her sister were adopted by army after her father was martyred during Kargil conflict in 1999.
Her story from misfortune to success has made her a role model for scores of young girls in and around Leh town and beyond. She will be unfolding her second innings by displaying her hidden talent as Dolkar intends to seek admission in Delhi University for her higher studies.
Dolkar lost her mother in 2010 devastating cloudburst that claimed over 120 lives. A chance visit to her aunt’s place to nearby Saboo village, a few kilometers from her home saved her life then and her sister, Kunzes, had to be evacuated from the hostel of Mahabodhi School. Both of them were studying there till then.
Known as “army’s daughter”, she and her sister were owned by the Ladakh Scouts Regiment and the expenses for their studies and upkeep were borne by the army’s Western Command who vouched to take care of them till they were adjusted in their lives. Both of them got admitted in an Army Public School near Dugshai in Himachal Pradesh.
Feeling indebted to army for teaching her how to counter difficult times and also for shaping her life, Dolkar aspires to serve the institution and repay her debt.
Her nieghbours and relatives adore her for her perseverance and dedication and feel proud of her achievements in her tender age.
“We admire her dedication, hard work and simplicity. She has kept her parents name alive”, said Tashi Stobdan, a student.
