The final ‘Final’ total is not in but from reports from Vegas the fight will go down as the third best selling nonheavyweight fight in history.
De La Hoya over the years has provided plenty of interest and cash flow. In 2007 his fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. set the all time record for pay- per- view with 2.4 million buys and $134 million in revenue. In 1999 he fought Felix Trinadad and had 1.4 million buys and $71.4 milloin in revenue. The only two to beat the Pacquiao fight.
In his last fight against Manny Pacquiao, the totals put it third with 1.25 million buys and $70 million in domestic television revenue.
Oscar De La Hoya has now added to his totals for pay- per- view, for buys (14.1 million) and revenue ($696.4 million). All done in his 19 fights for HBO PPV.
He lost on Saturday but I believe people would pay to see him one more time and HBO is probably thinking and wishing the same thing.
