The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, said on Thursday that the state government would not pass on the Rs 50 hike of LPG cylinders to consumers. Instead, the government would absorb the hike, he said while addressing a meeting organised by the Youth Congress at the Pitchukala Gunta grounds. Since there were 1.05 crore LPG connections in the state, the additional burden on the state would come to Rs 600 crore every year, he said. However, there will be no reduction in prices of petrol and diesel.
“Our mothers and sisters should not suffer because of the hike in prices of gas,” Dr Reddy said.
“The state had decided to bear the extra burden to relieve women from hardship,” the Chief Minister added. Dr Reddy added that the UPA government had increased the prices of diesel and petrol because of unavoidable circumstances. The meeting was organised to mark the conclusion of the Maro Praja Prasthanam launched by the Youth Congress state president, Mr T. Sudhakarbabu. As part of the two-day visit to the district, the Chief Minister participated in various developmental programmes in Macherla, Pulichintala and Guntur on Thursday.
