The senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman on Saturday called upon the country’s people to resist at any costs today’s national polls for electing Government. ‘It is time to launch an all-out united movement. Wait no more for orders. From now on, the only goal is to resist the autocratic government and its farcical elections at any cost forgetting all differences,’ he said, who is also BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s eldest son, in a video message sent through an online social media from UK. He said to all the people to continue the movement by all means and hoped that it must end in a success for the country’s future. He made the call just a day before the 10th parliamentary elections already boycotted by the opposition including the BNP and other political parties, demanding restoration of the non-party caretaker government system for a fair election for choosing government.
‘This is time for the people in Bangladesh, who believe in the basic principles of democracy, to resist and boycott together the January 5 election polls. We must do it not for the interest of any individual or party, but for the cause of the country, its future liberty and existence,’ he said.
The opposition leader, Khaleda Zia, on Friday urged people to totally boycott the “for show” election. Tarique, who has been living in London since 2008 when he went there for medical treatment, observed Bangladesh had now fallen into a deep crisis and the people of the country were arrogant at the ruling Awami League government. He also said that the whole country was now turned into a prison where there was no security for life and property of the normal people.
