Elderly people, who are ailing can have a sigh of relief, for they need not seek any body’s help to engage a taxi or an auto or to go to a bank seeking money for an emergent situation, for seeking medical help. All they have to do is just to make a phone call.
Elderly people now have the facility to obtain medical care at their door step, thanks to the geriatric house call programme. An initiative of the senior citizen’s bureau, 44 doctors, including geriatric specialists, physiotherapists, general physicians and counselors have agreed to be on call at the patient’s bedside to address any healthcare problems that old people commonly face, like gastrointestinal trouble, high blood pressure, hypertension, joint pains and breathing difficulties.
The doctors do not charge extra for the house visits.
Another sensitive issue the programme proposes to deal with is the provision of a death certificate, which is often a harrowing for the family of the diseased.
‘The doctors registered with us will answer such calls at the earliest’promissed the Chairman Dr.V.S.Natarajan.
