Leh, January 27, (Scoop News)- 7th C.E.C. Ice-Hockey Tournament, 2014 was today inaugurated by Executive Councillor, Sports, Gurmet Dorjey at Karzoo ice-hockey rink. The tournament is being organised by Youth Services & Sports Department in collaboration with Ladakh Winter Sports Club.
In his address, EC mentioned the work in progress on the construction of international standard ice-hockey rink at Leh and he hoped to hold all the winter events at the new stadium in near future. He appreciated the endeavours of Ladakh Winter Sports Club and Youth Services and Sports Department for their collective job in promoting winter games in Ladakh and for producing many international players from the lot.
Besides education, LAHDC, Leh is always ready to extend full support to sport promotion too, he said. He also said that though there is good number of young players in Ladakh but lack of proper equipments and gears deprive them from participating in this winter game. He requested both the organising groups to make ways to get required equipments for the deserving youths too. He also said that LAHDC, Leh will try to provide possible financial aid to Youth Services and Sports Department for promotion of this winter sport.
Earlier, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Abdul Rashid welcoming the guests and audiences gave a brief summary of this tournament. He said that 8 teams of men and 3 women teams will play in the week-long championship.
The first match today was between Skara Sporting Club and Ladakh Scouts Red teams in which Ladakh Scouts Red team won by 5-2 goals.
Councillor Phyang Tsering Sonam, Councillor Upper Leh Ven. Lobzang Nyantak, Councillor Tsering Angmo, Councillor Gh. Sayedin, DySP and other district officers were also present on the occasion.
